GROUPS & EVENTS
As an award-winning theatrical director, I have lots of experience to assist you with blocking groups of people with dancing steps and formations to be the highlight of your group event.
Brides and grooms have asked me to choreograph wedding party dances for groups from 6-16 people to songs like: I'm Too Sexy and I Feel Good. Such fun!
If you're thinking about doing something like this choose a song that is well-known and has a little bit of a "story" to it. This way the dance can highlight certain sections for laughs and showcasing individuals.
I've worked with the Assistance League and National Charity League to create beautiful group father/daughter dances that keep Dads looking debonair and debutantes in their high heels dancing on air.
I encourage father/daughter groups to choose a waltz that is known and is not too fast. The choreography remains simple but varied with a few patterns and formations that repeat every so often.
Likewise, I have choreographed many group Quinceanera dances for young girls and their courts (or their uncles!) to twirl away in their gorgeous dresses and tuxedos. See photos right of Alex and her court.
Again, I keep the choreography doable for all involved and encourage the ladies to wear low heels and have clothing they can move and turn and walk backwards in. Securing the hair and headpieces is a good idea too! Click here for more information on my Quinceaneras.
Rehearsals for these group events range from 2-6 for the wedding party groups, 4-6 for the father/daughter groups and 3-10 for the Quinceanera groups depending on the complexity of the dances and music chosen.
Planning ahead is a good idea, since I need to rent one of the small ballrooms at the studio for groups to have private space.
Lastly, if you and your friends would like to have a private group class in dance instruction for a particular dance I'd love to help. I've had requests for Renaissance Country Dancing and the Tarantella recently. We can arrange a good time to rent the space and even have some refreshments together at break and put the whole lesson on video for rehearsal and laughs later! |
